DO NOT ORDER FROM AMAZON

I ordered this rod/reel combo as a quick fix to a reel that I broke at the last minute. I have a Labor Day fishing tournament this weekend. Opened the box to find a 4' Copper Clad Grounding Rod... can't really fish with that! I called customer service and spoke with a very nice lady that informed me that they couldn't get the new rod sent till after my tournament, Thanks Amazon.
They didn't even offer me anything for my trouble and their mistake. Terrible service.
This is the second time I have ordered a fishing reel from amazon and the second time my order was incorrect. The first time I was delivered the wrong reel that was also left handed! I am pretty sure amazon has a huge bin of fishing equipment and when you order you get a random draw out of that bin. DO NOT ORDER FISHING EQUIPMENT FROM AMAZON!!!

Decent reel, mediocre rod, TERRIBLE Amazon packaging

This is a decent reel from Abu Garcia... excellent build quality though the anti-backlash is less effective than I've seen in much cheaper reels. Rod is OK but much too stiff in the tip; normally you'd find a light action tip on a medium action rod, not so here. Recommend pairing this reel with a better rod; I simply mounted it on an older (and cheaper!) Shakespeare Ugly Stick with much better action.
The packaging though... this was the worst Amazon packaging job that I've seen yet and that's saying something! Rod was simply dumped into a long, soft cardboard box made from two golf club shipping boxes taped together. No protective materials of any kind, and two of the line guides on the rod were badly bent. Thought about returning it but since I discarded the rod anyway I let it go. How tough would it have been to simply use a hard cardboard tube for packaging?

Great Combo

I've had this combo for a few months and it's fantastic. Casts the distance I want and expect with corresponding weights, using 10-12lb test mono, has a great feel for the bait, and a strong backbone so you can move a fish when you need to. Advise: order a few weeks before you'll need it. This is more of a shipping thing than anything else, but the first one I ordered was shipped in flat cardboard and when I got it off my porch the rod was clearly broken through the packaging. It was snapped at the second guide from the top. Naturally that was annoying, especially since I was planning on fishing it that weekend in a competition. Amazon was great about the return and replaced it very quickly (this time shipping in a hard cardboard tube), but the inconvenience of having to wait for a replacement for a product broken due to poor packaging/shipping was not appreciated. I won't let that impact my positive feelings about this product as I really do like it, but just a heads up to folks who buy this or other rods to make sure they don't need to use them immediately in case something goes wrong.
